March 9 2006: BBS Petitioned Mr. Sharad Pawar, the minister of Indian agriculture to provide an alternate to farmers engaged in tobacco cultivation. BBS said that this should be a priority area for the agriculture ministry and a plan for transfer of tobacco cultivation to other productive crops over a period of next 15-20 years should be worked out. September 17, 2005: Burning Brain Society (BBS) released a set of greeting cards for tobacco users. The cards are called “We care for you” cards and are intended to be used by near and dear ones of tobacco users requesting them to quit tobacco.

July 22, 2005: A victory; but still a long way to go. The tobacco company declares in the court that it shall be dropping the name "Red & White" from their sponsored bravery award. Chandigarh Administration also files an affidavit declaring the officers notified under the anti tobacco act.

July 4, 2005: Hemant Goswami writes an open letter to Shekhar Gupta, the Editor-in-Chief of Indian Express on the tobacco issue. The letter is a result of a campaign by the media to belittle the move of banning tobacco in the mass media.

March 30, 2005: The Burning Brain Society made yet another difference in its fight against tobacco. Vivek Oberoi returned the tobacco named "Red and White prize" to Godfrey Phillips India Limited.

March 23, 2005: Vivek Oberoi, the film actor was given the no-tobacco day award by WHO in recognition of his stand against tobacco. What an irony, on 21st of March 2005 the same man, Vivek Oberoi, accepted an award in the name of a cigarette brand, "Red & White" from a tobacco company promoting the trade mark/name of their cigarette brand. The Governor again participate in the tobacco company award function. A battery of Government officials (IAS) sitting on their knees also supported the tobacco company. ITC is promoting greeting cards and children notebooks. Their Greeting cards carry the name "Gold Flake" and a logo similar to the logo on their cigarette brand.

Some More Activities

Our search for talent continues in 2004 too. Burning Brain Society continues to identify and motivate creative youngsters. Another "Burning Brain Painting Competition" held at Chandigarh Museum and Art Gallery.
We complaint about your our youngsters getting westernized and loosing our cultural values. But are we making them aware of our culture, our heritage? Are we doing anything to make them feel proud of what we actually are? Have we scientifically told them about our roots? Burning Brain sensitizes the youngsters about our heritage and roots. Students being made familiar with our rich heritage under the "Discover your Heritage" series.

Burning Brain Society organised an all India Poster Competition on 'Ill effects and consequences of Tobacco.' The idea was to sensitize the youngsters about the menace of tobacco. 39 youngsters honoured for fighting tobacco with their brush.
Senior Citizens learning computers and internet at a workshop on the basics of internet & computers. The workshop was followed by a free 10 days training on internet & computers for every participating senior citizen.
Talented students painting their dreams in "Burning Brain On The Spot Painting Competition" at Chandigarh; Padam Shri Nek Chand, the creator of world famous "Rock Garden" along with Hemant Goswami motivating the children.
